Bigfoot is in the classic walking pose displayed in the Patterson-Gimlin footage; however this bigfoot is giving the peace symbol in a carefree sort of way.

This design is not for the traditional Threadless.com competition but for one of their specialty competitions called Threadless Loves Simple; which is why it is fairly basic. In this competition you can only use three colors or less and they want the design to be, well… simple.

Bigfoot's Photo Shoot Shirt Design

Bigfoot's Photo Shoot Shirt Design

In my design I wanted to convey a humorous aspect of taking pictures of Bigfoot as most pictures of it are either blurry or unclear and some are even disputable whether it could be any kind of animal at all. I also wanted to put a point across that perhaps Bigfoot is just plain blurry. The photographer clearly had a very short distance to photograph Bigfoot as most model photographers have specialty cameras that can take very high-resolution images and yet Bigfoot even with background objects being in clear focus is still very blurry. The viewer not seeing Bigfoot behind the lens is still forced to see a blurry Bigfoot.

I did this Bigfoot Threadless.com submission in three colors. I used some blues and a halftone effect to give the illusion that Bigfoot is always blurry.

If you have some time stop by Threadless.com to check out my design and all the other really cool shirt designs they have available.

The Legend of Breakfast Threadless Zelda Shirt Submission https://halegrafx.com/threadless/the-legend-of-breakfast-threadless-zelda-shirt-submission/ https://halegrafx.com/threadless/the-legend-of-breakfast-threadless-zelda-shirt-submission/#comments Tue, 12 Jun 2012 01:30:01 +0000 http://halegrafx.com/?p=740 If you love The Legend of Zelda game series from Nintendo and love bacon and eggs, you might love this shirt design I submitted to threadless.com. I find that a lot of the time when I’m playing a Legend of Zelda game that I start to see things in the real world everywhere that remind me of things from the game.

One morning I was making my daughters some eggs and the gold from the 3 yolks reminded me of the Tri-force; crazy I know. This immediately inspired me to make a fun shirt design using various objects that you might find on a breakfast plate as characters and objects in the Legend of Zelda game. I thought it would be fun to submit this to threadless.com and see how the community there liked it and maybe get it printed. If not I will pursue other venues such as Zazzle.com to print it.

I went about brainstorming what breakfast objects could be translated into the various items and characters in the Legend of Zelda world. The first thing of course was the eggs, they were the inspiration after all! They could be transformed into the Tri-force. So I made the plate of three eggs into the Tri-force. The next thing that immediately occurred to me was that Ganon, the main villain from the Zelda game series, is often depicted as a humanoid pig and so I went about creating bacon that looked like Ganon.

When I think of restaurant breakfast plates I often think of the garnishment they use such as a little piece of kale or parsley. This worked as a logical association to the hero Link as he is green and associated with the forest. I subtly turned a piece of kale into Link.

In some of the game series Zelda is trapped in some sort of crystal and after talking with my friend about it, the idea came about to put her in an ice cube in orange juice. It also worked out well that Link would be holding a butter knife as a sword and Ganon would use the fork much like the pitchfork he holds in some of the games.

Sea Bunny Attack! Threadless Shirt Design Submission https://halegrafx.com/threadless/sea-bunny-attack-threadless-shirt-design-submission/ https://halegrafx.com/threadless/sea-bunny-attack-threadless-shirt-design-submission/#comments Fri, 01 Jun 2012 00:09:01 +0000 http://halegrafx.com/?p=725 This sea bunny attack design that I submitted to threadless.com was inspired by both my love of the ocean and my love of rabbits. I have a couple of pet rabbits right now and this illustration in particular best describes my rabbit Wicket. He is especially crabby most of the time but can be very sweet. The little critter is very protective of his food and if you put your hand in the cage the wrong way he will attack you. It’s a matter of picking him up at the right angle and also picking him up at the right time.

I’ve had the urge to do a lot of design for threadless.com lately as doing shirt designs is always fun. If you’re not familiar with Threadless.com it is a site where you can submit designs to be voted on to be printed as shirts, other apparel items such as backpacks, laptop skins, and iPhone cases.

In the sea bunny illustration that I did for Threadless.com I decided to make a giant rabbit as a sea monster about to flop down on a small ship with a small crew of men struggling to keep their sail intact. I chose to use colors that I usually see in the ocean such as some blues and greens and then I picked out an orange to make it somewhat like a visual trigger for the rabbit; he is attacking the boat because it looks like a giant carrot to him. Truth be told I think my rabbits love bananas more than carrots but I won’t let that get in the way of the common association.

Pac-Mayan Threadless T-Shirt Design Submission https://halegrafx.com/threadless/pac-mayan-threadless-t-shirt-design-submission-3/ https://halegrafx.com/threadless/pac-mayan-threadless-t-shirt-design-submission-3/#comments Tue, 15 May 2012 15:49:42 +0000 http://halegrafx.com/?p=623 Here’s my latest submission to Threadless.com’s ongoing t-shirt design contest. I created this design in Adobe Illustrator. I decided to theme it around a prominent topic of 2012; the end of the world.

An “end of the world” Illustration

There are many theories on how the world is going to end but one that I see a lot and that you may have heard about is the connection between the Mayan calendar and the end of the world. I don’t believe that most people want to hear that the world’s going to end as we know it or that life is going to cease to exist.

I personally don’t think the world is going to end anytime soon so I think there is some entertainment value in making fun of the idea as we’ve been through these “end of the world” scenarios before.

This particular shirt design is inspired by my love of classic video games in combination with the prophecy connected to the Mayan calendar. I also really like the intricate artwork on the Mayan calendar. The resulting illustration: Pac-Mayan.

Pac-Man as the Mayan calendar

Pac-Mayan - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No MoreThis Pac-Mayan vector illustration is a merging of the Mayan calendar with Pac-man, who now as the calendar is about to devour the Earth; normally a power pellet. If you look closely at the calendar you will see little illustrated elements from the Pac-man game integrated into the design. Objects such as little ghosts, cherries, power pellets and little Pac-man figures can be found all over the illustration.
